SWITCH from city living and enjoy island life. That is the message from estate agents Savills as a novel way to overcome the credit crunch - and one of the best places is Arran.

You won't be tempted by expensive coffees and sandwiches and can land a house with a garden to grow your own fruit and veg. You could even let out a spare room.

Savills have several homes on Arran on their books at the moment. They include Benvaren, an Edwardian house overlooking Lochranza Bay, with three reception rooms, four bedrooms and an attic room with a wood burning stove at offers over £485,000.

The Anchorage at Lamlash Bay is a traditional house with four bedrooms plus a two-bedroom cottage at offers over £495,000.

At Whiting Bay, Savills are marketing Mansewood, which comes with three reception rooms, four bedrooms and a great kitchen. It is on the market at offers over £525,000.

WHAT was once the site of a tyre depot in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, is to become the setting for luxury apartments.

The latest development to be announced by CALA Homes North, it will be known as Priory Gate. The 48-home development will be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments ideal for first and second-time purchasers as well as investors.

Housed within three apartment buildings, prices for the debut release now going on sale start at £185,000 for a two-bedroom version with en suite facilities for the master bedroom.

Andrea Joyce, sales and marketing director with CALA Homes North, said: "We know people who come from Inverurie are loyal to the town and this new development gives locals the chance to own a new urban-style property.

"Plus we think they will appeal to people who perhaps feel they can't afford to move into Aberdeen or don't want the hassle of the city.

"However, the apartments are also ideal for investors or anyone who works in Aberdeen as there are excellent transport links between Inverurie, the city and especially Dyce and the airport."
