Grand old homes come back to life

Posted: 2008/11/26
Once one of Glasgow's most well-heeled areas, Park is getting a boost as offices are turned back to the homes they were meant to be.
The Park area of Glasgow has taken another step forward as one of the city's most sought-after residential locations. Back in Victorian times the Park was the place where well-heeled citizens lived. By the mid 20th century, the grand townhouses had become too large, and most switched over to use as offices.
Come the computer age, many were no longer suitable as commercial space so now they are regaining their residential role as plush houses in step with 21st-century living.
The latest of these to launch on the market is Woodlands View. This Grade A listed building, which was formerly architects' offices at 18 and 19 Woodlands Terrace, has been transformed into luxury housing by West Lothian-based Wisebuild Developments.
Their first development in the Glasgow area, the conversion features three duplexes and three apartments.
A three-bedroom mews house with an integral garage is to be built at the back next year. Wisebuild have carried out a meticulous conversion, retaining and restoring many of the original features.
Mike Green, managing director of Wisebuild, said: "The refurbishment works have been extensive and we have renewed the roof and roof lights, made necessary structural alterations and completely upgraded the stair and entrance areas.
"The development has been designed around one of its main assets, the view from the front of the building. Living space has been located at the front to allow full benefit of the great views over Glasgow. It's an excellent, historic location where stylish living combines with all that the city has to offer in terms of business and entertainment."
Prices range from £285,000 for a twobedroom flat to £565,000 for a threebedroom, two-level penthouse.
