A community of active life

A STEPPING stone between conventional home ownership and full residential care.
That is how housebuilders Manorlane describe their newest Scottish property market venture.
Carrying the brand title of Active Living, it is being set up to create assisted living communities for the increasing numbers of people in the over-60 age bracket.
Land director Barry McKeown said: "We felt there was a real gap in the market for this intermediate option for the over-60s, enabling them to live independently but offering them and their families the peace of mind that on-call care is always available.
"Owners will also benefit from remaining a part of the wider community and having the option to socialise with other residents in the communal areas."
The Active Living complexes will have 24-hour on-call care available should it be needed.
They will offer a selection of one and three-bedroom accommodation plus communal living and dining areas.
Already Manorlane have pinpointed two sites suitable for possible development of Active Living complexes. One is in Clydesdale, the other at Blackridge.
The aim is to include them as part of larger developments that offer family homes and community facilities, so creating a true community spirit and also enabling different generations of families to live near one another.
News of this new dimension to Manorlane's build programme was revealed by chief executive Elliot Robertson when he announced their latest trading results.
Turnover during what was only their second year of trading almost tripled up by 265 per cent on the previous year to £13.67million. Their land bank has also grown from 564 plots to 608 plots.
