Roehampton House at Queen Mary's Place

WE RECENTLY saw the launch of a prime new development in west London, opposite Richmond Park.

Queen Mary's Place is a collection of new homes by St James built around the Grade I-listed 18th-century Roehampton House (left) and its beautiful formal gardens.

The name of the development has been chosen in recognition of Queen Mary, who was a patron of the hospital which was originally sited there.

When complete in 2011, the development will provide 447 new and refurbished luxury homes set in nearly 14 acres.

There are a wide variety of layouts to choose from including 135 houses and 177 apartments as well as 24 refurbished apartments within the historic Roehampton House - plus affordable homes.

Prices for a two-bedroom off-plan apartment start from £350,000.

New properties will be designed to blend with the Baroque architecture of Roehampton House and many will have views of its formal gardens.

The setting of Queen Mary's Place, close to Barnes, Wimbledon, Richmond and Putney, is remarkably rural for somewhere which is also within striking distance of central London via the A3.

It is just a short walk to the pastoral landscape of Richmond Park which is used by riding schools and private liveries at all times of the year. Barnes and Wimbledon both have large common areas.

Local sporting facilities are legendary and include Roehampton Club, which has a golf course as well as tennis and squash courts, croquet lawn and swimming pools, plus the famous Hurlingham Club in nearby Fulham.
